Lately Trust has been a huge topic on my mind..

i was in with my counselor last week and had the Aha! moment that what i

was missing in my current steps on my creative & life path was Trust!!

Some place between thanksgiving & new years my trust in God had gotten

smaller due to life happening.. money troubles,worried about my creative biz,

family weirdness,etc.... I had started to doubt all the good things my Heavenly

father had clearly told me.. i am still fighting off smaller now pockets of doubt but

i see where my trust is growing again .. what a constant battle we fight to BELIEVE!!

We struggle to trust our hearts, the things we know that we know, to trust ourselves & our choices,

to trust the God who loves us so so dearly and has so much good in store for us!!!

just as my favorite passage in the scriptures says :

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

- Jeremiah 29:11

I have been feeling such passion for the subject of "comparing yourself to others" lately .
as i trod along my life and creative path with God
i have really been hit by some big high's & big ol low's!!
i have felt amazing & like i'm finding my way &
i have felt totally lost and like this journey is a lost cause..
"what do i have to say that isn't already out there in 1,000 other paintings" ..
and
"who am i to try to make a life of artful living!

Sometimes you can feel like white noise out here in the land of
your fellow creatives..
you can feel like everyone but you has a booming art career & can make a
descent income off of what they love doing and they aren't living pay check to pay check like you are..
you can feel like everyone has a book deal & a awesome teaching gig..( when this is so not the truth of the matter.. the grass is not greener .. just different)

BUT then ....

You remember why you do this creative living,you remember why you paint,make jewelry, CREATE!!!
and it has very very little to do with any of those things you use to compare yourself to others & that make you feel "not enough"...

YOU WERE BORN TO SHINE LOVE!!!

and share the true story that you have seen darkness & the light won out!!!
{i'm talking to all of us}

So despite all things and all comparison and all the "what do they think of me, am i good enough" and blah blah blah!!! there is one truth ...

YOU are the only you there is and YOU are meant to SHINE!!!!!!

As God's word says :

The words that ended up on this painting where not planned..

i was originally starting out writing "shining thru" and in writing i accidentally

wrote "Tr" instead of "Th" and i really loved the way the letters looked so i googled

"be true" and then i remember Kelly's post about the word "true" and that word has been showing up alot in my life in other places as well and thought "well i guess those words wanted to shine thru"

so there we have it.. So "find your true north" was born !!! a statement that is very much where i am these days...

I am So digging the colors i grew up with .. all the neon vivid skate rat colors!!!

Postitive thinking!

I've been struggling alot!!! lately with positive thinking.. yes, that's right The "hope,faith,love,rainbows & butterflies"Artist struggles with thinking good thoughts .. alot actually. which is honestly alot of why i paint those messages .. i paint what i need to hear and share those reminders with you via my work so you know you are not alone!
But lately has been a struggle to keep my thinking in a positive light and though i have fought up stream to keep as positive as i could i still keep falling deep into the mouth of the lies of negativity off & on..

Yesterday i had a great lunch date with a dear old friend . one of those friends you can just be a mess with and not have to explain everything cause they already get you .. they know where you are and you can just be real and they love you anyway.. those friends are hard to come by and priceless once you have them... we talked for hours sitting at a sushi place then a Starbucks.. (we were there so long one guy walked by who had seen us earlier and was like "you're still here!" ha!) .. it was a healing time for both of us .. come to find out she was struggling too .. it was as my friend Danielle likes to say "Soul Balm" !!! love that!!! And even though the worries & struggles are still present and i'm still fighting up stream to remain positive and TRUST GOD!!! just knowing i am not alone is all i needed to boost me up to carry on some more.. it's amazing what knowing you're not by yourself in the storm will help you to overcome!

Here are a few other things this week that have really help me in my heart of hearts to know all really is well even when it doesn't feel like it and i am not alone!!! and the deepest truth of all that We Need Each Other...

Lessons in Stillness ...

With the new year i've been thinking alot about connection and how i connect with others .. facebook,twitter,blogging,texting,etc.. and how i long to cultivate more time face to face .. {i'll only do the phone thing for a few people far away.. don't like the phone} ..
i love {and i mean LOVE} all my social networking and have no plan to stop using it but i want to balance out using it as my main means of seeing those i love most.. i have old friendship that are so dear to me and i want to really give good attention to those people this year while still saving space for myself .. {i am someone who requires time to hide and regroup from time to time or i get burnt out}..How do i do this without getting into my "gotta do it perfect" "all or nothing" thinking?

I've also been thinking about my art career and the way i measure it's success or failure..
if i'm making alot of money and getting book deals and getting my products licensed and sold the world over does that mean i'm a success or is it the mere fact that i'm putting my heart out into the world and creating daily reminders to "always hope" that makes my art career a success ? i know it's the latter but man is it ever easy to believe the lie that it's really only the amount of money and public acknowledgment I'm getting that means I'm a success in my artful life ... how do i make this thing happen without forcing it... and losing sight of God's plan for this creative path ?

The answer seems odd .. but really perfect... i think in order to be more present with my God, my husband, my family/friends and myself ..and in order to cultivate a creative career the answer seems to be .. Be Still .. doesn't that seem a odd answer? but perfect in all it's oddness ...

“Be still, and know that I am God" - Psalm 46:10

Yeah , it feels odd to me to embrace a "be still" state of mind because so much of my life has been centered around "never giving in!" "never giving up!" and " just keep going!!! ".. because of my anxiety disorder these ways of thinking have saved me in times of just wanting to quit trying.. when everything felt to hard!! these words have propelled me forward and are faithful friends.. but i forget to slow down .. i rarely remember to slow down especially internally where all my wild and crazy "busy busy busy think think think-ness" lives.. So to slow down and be still is going to be a great lesson .. to know that in being still i am actually moving forward but in a much saner and healthier way. in a "God's timing" kind of way .. that being still doesn't mean i have stopped but that i am calmly moving along .. God forbid i stop altogether !!!! {lol}.....

i find it so interesting where i start with a painting and then where it ends up .so much of the beginning work you never see in the finished piece but it adds so much to the overall textures and spaces..

everything added in makes the painting take on it's completed shape .. much like us and everything this life sends our way ..

so i just went to check my mail & there was a huge! box and i thought "what in the world i am not expecting anything! " then i thought "don't get excited ! it's probably been delivered to the wrong address" .. {i'm so positive! lol!} .. So i see the address and the name "Swift" and i'm like "swift!? i know a swift ? Jen Swift??!!!! {who is a new online friend i meet via the awesome Cristi!} .. Excitement!!!!
but confusion! because why would Jen send me a big ol' box???

Well!!! my Best friend Trish is a sneaky lady!! i posted on my facebook months ago that i loved a wall hook that jen had on her etsy and i didn't even know Trish was paying attention much less would remember it months later... well it would have been cool if Trish had bought me the one i posted about But no!!!! she went one better & she had me a wall hook custom made by Jen!!!

So what makes it even more special is she had it made featuring a cat & a bee .. which represents me & Trish .. (i'm the cat short for Catina and she's the bee short for her nickname "trishybee") & it is a piece of her here with me . She moved away to Austin earlier this year and we are homesick for one another often.. aww , i cried!! i cried like a baby!!!!

DUDE! i'm so sick of being sick! this holiday season has been a festival of lung issues,the flu,losing my voice,and sinus blah! BUT.... it has still been full of wonderful things too!!!

my christmas was wonderful . lots of family and lots of laughs.. it had it's hard spots as all holiday seasons tend to but all in all .. i loved it..

my beloved hubby was a great gift giver this year . we keep gifts pretty simple . we both like useful things and usually things that are part of our creative life ..
this christmas he snuck and got me 3 tubes of Golden paint & Golden matte gel medium ..
{note: i had always wanted some golden paint but that stuff is too costly for my wallet .. but now i have some and i like it so far..}
he also got me a vintage easel from the 40's/50's i believe .. it is so pretty . it came in it's original packaging with the groovy 50's font reading "new york,new york".. nice :)
and i bought myself a little flip video camera for making art vlogs and so on :)
( i got him music stuff .. stuff for his drums and cash to get other goodies.. )
and i'm proud to say 90% of our gifts to each other and our families came from Etsy or we bought locally from local artists or vintage shops!! yay!! progress!

This Christmas really got me to thinking about aging and life .. and more to the point not wasting life..
how time just continues on rather or not you're ready for it to . it truly never waits for you .. you hear that saying all the time.. "Time waits for no one!!" ..but my lord! i never realized how true it is!!
So my New years will be a time of LIVING!!! 100% living with intention and doing it afraid!!! (even more then i do now) .. my thoughts this year will be turned toward health in heart,mind, and body .. my walk with my father GOD and making him first! following this ART path and making time for my most BELOVED friends and family while still making myself a priority .. this year is going to be GOOD!!!!

bridges will be built and time will not be wasted ... with the help of my father GOD! i can cultivate these heart wishes into living truth in my daily steps...

Well guys , it's that time.. the magic time! the time of year i love the most because it seems the one time we all try to embrace the hope of things that are good.. the hope that we make a difference just by being alive & sharing our hearts with one another... of course this time of year is also a heavy time for alot of us .. money is tight, stress can run deep & wide, trying to make everything "just so!" can almost make you crazy and then there are our families .. we all hope the christmas gathering will be a hallmark moment with heartwarming music in the background and delightful laughter .. for some this is the case, some of you are blessed to have these types of families .. some are not..

The point here is this... no matter what challenges you are facing this season of Christmas . no matter the state of your family relationships .. Find the Merry in this Christmas!! what a wonderful time to be alive!!

i am i know.. i'm a bad blogger ! i've been very sidetracked with holiday's and painting and so on..
sorry guys! i am however looking into getting a flip camera (maybe one with my art on it!) and doing alot more of the vlog's .. however for now i wanted to peek in and say HI!!

i have to tell you God is really blessing these baby steps of faith i've been taking with my business . i am meeting so many wonderful fellow artist's and it is so exciting !! i am slowing reaching more folks with my art and my etsy shop is growing & sales are growing too.. i get so! excited and feel so loved every time i make a sale!! it is so flattering that someone would think enough of my work to spend their hard earned money on it!!! amazing!!!!

                                   it is interesting how if you're listening to the rhythm of your life you kinda get a hint of the direction to take..
i am swimming in a sea of transition right now in almost every element of my life. all my old familiars are shifting .. bittersweet overflow..

    i've noticed this past week i've been antsy and a little impatient with the movement in my online business.. i get itchy and think maybe this isn't my path and then i think to myself "ebb & flow" ! "baby steps" ! & "chill out & trust God"!!!

                      i realized this morning that in that quiet time , when sells are slower & contacts aren't being made, and advertisements are slowly paying off .. in the moments i want to yell "why isn't more happening!!!!" ... that is when i need to be cultivating other things.. this journey can't be all business! this journey isn't corporate america , this is a soulful journey ... a journey where God has given me alittle love to share and in the process the icing on the love cake is it will help me pay the bills...

So when the business front is quiet , Go paint, Go read, Go play!!!! but don't sit in a hot white panic in "give up" mode... Build it and they will come :)
